Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kyoto-based katazome (stencil dyeing) artist Mihoko Seki studied under Katazome artist Mari Horie in Kyoto. Katazome is a traditional Japanese method of dyeing fabrics using a resist paste applied through a stencil cut paper.
In addition to creating kimonos and obis, Mihoko also creates illustrations, packaging and stationery using the stencil dyeing techniques on paper. Her nostalgic and unqiue style is very popular amongst the younger Japanese generation.
