Ryokan was a Japanese zen monk who lived a quiet life in a small shack in the mountains. He was a calligraphy master and he wrote many simple poems about his daily life.

In this book, Kobe-based South African illustrator Graeme McNee adapted 20 of Ryokan's poems into short three panel comics. There are 5 poems for each season, and each season is printed in a different colour of ink. The simple hand-drawn illustrations capture the essence of Ryokan's writing wonderfully; it is also a perfect introduction to Ryokan's poetry.

This is the first printing of the new edition of this book. The original version was a smaller B6 size book, limited to 100 copies made for friends and family in 2014. The new version includes larger, redrawn art and an extra poem to close the book.

Limited edition of 100 numbered copies.
