Cochae is a graphic design unit founded in 2003, with Yosuke Jikuhara and Miki Takeda aiming to create contemporary and playful design inspired by traditional Japanese origami.
The name "cochae" comes from a folk song in Okayama prefecture ( their home town) called "Cochae-bushi". Cochae is a festive word for this song and a popular slang term in the Edo period (1830s-40s), which means "it's nice over here" or "first-timers welcome".
The design unit broadened later their activities with new workshops, installations and toy creations. In 2008, they were awarded Good Design Award (G-mark) for their "Funny Face origami".
